Discussion
[edit]The rare book and manuscript library of Columbia University has a copy of Annabel Lee written by Poe's hand on the web here:

This lists the last line as "In her tomb by the side of the sea", instead of the more usually-seen "In her tomb by the sounding sea". Might this alternative wording be worth mentioning on the main document? --cfmdobbie
The correct line is "I was a child and she was a child", not "She was a child, and I was a child."
- I myself believe both lines are correct -- Poe's manuscript and the first printed version differ in various minor ways. —unsigned comment by 144.136.115.144 (talk) .
- That's quite true— while the most common version circulated was indeed "I was a child ...", there is at least one manuscript where he had it reversed. – Quoth 09:30, 14 October 2006 (UTC)
What is the KINGDOM BY THE SEA he is always refering to. —unsigned comment by 76.113.43.169 (talk) 10:44, 24 October 2008.
- The critical analsysis I have quickly looked mostly either leaves it indefinite, or suggest Boston. John Vandenberg (chat) 01:42, 24 October 2008 (UTC)
The ending is supposed to be In her tomb by the side of the sea not by the sounding sea
- Yes, you are correct... in some versions the final line is "side of the sea" not "by the sounding sea". --Midnightdreary (talk) 20:35, 18 March 2009 (UTC)
Minor correction: "The moon never beams without bringing me dream..." is incorrect "dream" should be "dreams". WGH--76.173.238.153 15:21, 7 June 2013 (UTC)http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/72/Annabel_Lee_fair_copy_Poe_1849.jpg
