61.APRIL

Wav'ring remembrance of bright, far-off days
And spring scents moves me, like the fading face
Of buried beauty that with tears I trace
In baby features and their blue-eyed gaze.

Up from the past in flames of memory start
Passion-sweet midnights in the vanished years,
When mellow moonlight music filled our ears
And golden hair lay soft against my heart.

This is the message that this April morn
Has breathed upon me with the breath of spring
From far, familiar gardens, till forlorn

I falter as the shadows come across
That fugitive delight, and backward bring
The eternal poignancy of love and loss.

From the Catalan of Miquel S. Oliver.
