Constancy
By Andrew Francis Lockhart
The blood-red sun sinks deep,
Deep in the bowl of space;
And snow-white clouds like sheep
Stray o’er the evening’s face.
A lone star glimmers pale,
Above the mountain’s crest,
And like a fading sail
The moon dims in the west.
A stillness reaching far;
Night.... and the Loneliness!
And yet in one lone star
Lie Hope and God’s caress!
