Evelina: or, a Young Lady's Entrance into the World (1778)
by Frances Burney

This is a transcription of the first edition of the novel, published in 1778. Both it and the second edition (1779) were entitled 'Evelina, or a Young Lady's Entrance into the World' and this has been used here. The third edition, also published in 1779, was entitled 'Evelina, or the History of a Young Lady's Entrance into the World'. Later editions have been variously titled, including: 'Evelina, or the History of a Young Lady’s Introduction to the World'; 'Evelina, or Female Life in London'; and simply 'Evelina'. [Based on Fanny Burney: an annotated bibliography (1981), by Joseph A Grau, p.3.]
