1. CHARLES MATHEW CLODE, C.B. Alexander Macdonald, b. 1862. Three-quarter length, life-size, standing fronting, head slightlyto his right; black coat and overcoat, blue tie ; right handhanging down and holding gloves, fingers of left hand thrust intopocket; badge of C.B. in top corner to his left beneath name.Signed. Canvas, 54 inches high x 36 inches. Purchased in 1894. Posthumous portrait. At a Court held on December 15, 1893, the Masterand Wardens reported with regard to a memorial of the late Mr. C. M. Clode, 6 That they are unanimously of opinion that a most fitting and desirable memorial of their latecolleague would be his portrait. They have had the advantageof seeing one which is in course of execution by Mr. A.McDonald, and which they consider an excellent and pleasinglikeness, when it was resolved that the report be approved andadopted. In the Cash Book for 1894 is the following item:April 9, Paid Mr. A. McDonald for the portraitof the late Mr. C. M. Clode. . . £136 10s. 42
