Description
English: Photographic portrait of Franz Joseph I taken by Carl Pietzner in 1910, as cropped and bordered in The New York Times in 1916. This is cropped from one of at least two similar photographs taken by Pietzner, and was published in Ilustrirte Zeitung No. 3709 on July 30, 1914. This version of the portrait was used in the announcement of the emperor's death in the November 22, 1916 edition of the Times.
