Mr. Delancy rose and stood thought-fully twirling his monocle by the string.Then he threw away his cigar, concealeda yawn, and glanced gravely at the clockon the mantel. May I go in and say good night toCatharine, sir? asked young Harroll. Mr. Delancy looked bored, but noddedcivilly enough. And, Jim, he drawled, as the youngman started toward the drawing-room, I wouldnt go to Palm Beach if Iwere you. Yes, you would, sirâif you were I. My boy, said Mr. Delancy, mildly, Im damned if I have you for a son-in-law! Good night. They shook hands. Harroll walkedinto the drawing - room and found itempty.
