Summary

Description
English: Illustration from "Once a Week" magazine, 19 January 1861, volume 4, page 98. Depicts the legend of Iphis and Anaxarete: Iphis loved Anaxarete, she didn't love him, he killed himself on her doorstep the night before her wedding; she mocked at his death. Here, she is shown in a haughty posture on the steps at back left as the bridal procession marvels.
