Description
English: Portrait of Jan Baptiste van Helmont, a copy after Mary Beale’s 17th century. In the 21st century her portrait was thought to be of Robert Hooke but it turned out not to be so. Jan Baptiste van Helmont was a Belgian physician and early scientist, 1579-1644. Oil on board 2011.

Source The original is an oil painting on board by Rita Greer, history painter, 2011. This was digitized by Rita and sent via email to the Department of Engineering Science, Oxford University, where it was subsequently uploaded to Wikimedia.
