Summary

Description
English: Sandbags along Southern Pacific RR tracks looking west July 16, 1905. The Colorado River had broken its banks and was flooding the Salton Sink creating the present day Salton Sea. SPRR tracks were re-aligned twelve times due to the rising flood waters with shoo-flies until they were place 200 feet below sea level and out of harm's way.
