Many persons v/ere getting on, while otherswere getting off. Mr. Bobbsey gathered hislittle family down toward the parlor, or chair,car. Heah you am, sah! exclaimed the coloredporter as he swung Flossie and Freddie up thesteps, and helped Mrs. Bobbsey and Dinah.Nan and Bert felt big enough not to need anyhelp. Hello! Whats dish yeah ? cried the por-ter, as he picked up the box containing Snoop.** Am dish good to eat? he asked, looking inat the black cat. What am it? Oh, its our Snoop! cried Flossie. Donthurt him! Deed an I wont, little Missie! laughedthe colored porter. I thought maybe it wasa watermelon yo all had in dat box.

Pate 45 ( SNAPS ESCAPE 53 •* All aboard! called the conductor again,and then, with the Bobbseys safely in theirchair car, the train puffed away again, goingfaster and faster. The engine can hardly get its breath. re-marked Freddie, as he listened to the puffing ofthe locomotive. I guess its going up hill, said Bert, witha laugh. The ride to Meadow Brook would takenearly all day, and Mrs. Bobbsey settled her-self comfortably in the easy chair to look outof the window, after she had seen that Flossieand Freddie were all right. Nan and Bertlooked after themselves, and Mr. Bobbsey,having seen that his family was comfortable,began to read his paper. Dinah took a chairin one corner where she could doze off. Italways made her sleepy to ride in a train, shesaid. Nan and Bert looked out at the passingscenery, as did Flossie and Freddie, when theyiwere not taking turns peeking in at Snoop.As for the black cat hims
