Shows broad short carapace; broad preabdomen; large eyes; swimming legs; abdomen with apparently but eight segments and short telson. Paratype. × 6. (length 5.5mm) 2 Somewhat older individual, having 12 segments, but still retaining the broad carapace and preabdomen. Paratype. × 5. (length 8mm) 3 Carapace of young individual, showing the great width of carapace, the large lateral eyes with ocular node and visual area and prominent ocellar tumescence. × 18. (length 1.8mm) 4 Carapace and first tergite of somewhat older individual, still showing large prominent lateral eyes. × 6 5 Young carapace with a swimming leg. Eyes show ocular node and visual area. × 12 6 A larger carapace with smaller eyes, retaining both the ocular node and visual area. × 3 7 Another carapace, showing the crescentlike form of the visual area. Paratype. × 3 8 Very young individual, retaining carapace and preabdomen; with slight lateral compression. Shows rim and very prominent lateral eyes and ocellar mound or tumescence. × 5 9 Another young individual, retaining more nearly the original form and strong traces of ornamentation on tergites. Paratype. × 5½. (length 8mm) 10 An older carapace retaining the large sized lateral eyes of the immature condition. × 3.
