From Wikisource

The Letterbook of Explorers' Journals is a collection of transcriptions of reports and journals of exploration of Western Australia between 1829 and 1870. It is the outcome of John Septimus Roe's very nearly successful attempt to transcribe every single exploration report during his time as Surveyor-General of Western Australia. The Letterbook survives to this day, and is the reason why Western Australia has such an excellent historical record of its exploration. Most of the original journals have now been lost, making the Letterbook the source of best provenance for most of its content.
