Dear Doctor,
Yours of Sept 23rd at hand, I have been
quite ill for the past ten days with sort
of general break, nervous prostration, but
am improving slowly.
I left Philada as you know on the 1st Aug.
arriving in Tuskegee Aug 3rd staid there
until Aug 8th when I went up to Montgomery and
boarded at quiet place studying for the examination
until Aug 17th and on that day about half past eight o'clock
in company with Mr. Washington went to the Capitol, which
is a beautiful white building situated on Dexter Ave. Asked
for Dr. Cochran + was told he was sick, Mr. Washington
then introduced me as Dr. Dillon who came to take the
State Examination, the supervisor who represents Dr. Cochran
said very politely "any information I give to." I
said that is alright I have written Dr. Cochran and
am ready to begin immediately on chemistry, I
also showed him my diploma + letters of
introduction. The diploma especially excited
comment from the supervisor + author young
