Carols for Christmas-tide

From Wikisource
(Redirected from Piae Cantiones)

This volume contains condensed vocal parts for Carols for Christmas-tide originally published in 1854, and Carols for Easter-tide originally published 1855. A fully harmonized publication of each of these had been published a year earlier.

Both of these works are collections of carols adapted from the 13th-century Finnish collection Piae Cantiones, with Neale providing lyrics "in imitation" of the original, and Helmore adapting and harmonizing the musical settings. Many popular Christmas songs, including "Good Christian Men, Rejoice" and "Good King Wenceslas", originated from these works.
