SMITTEN.
Through the wood as I was roaming,
There a gentle youth I spied,
Piping sweetly in the gloaming,
Till the rocks around replied,
So la la!
And beside him down he drew me,
Called me fair, and kissed me then.
"Pipe once more!" I said, and through me
Thrill'd his music sweet again.
So la la!
Now my peace is flown, and never
Comes a smile into mine eye,
And within my ears for ever
Rings that music, and I sigh,
So la la!
