[edit]According to this reference and to w:Plain Tales from the Hills, the book contained 40 stories.
The following stories are not present in the edition from Project Gutenberg :
- The Three Musketeers (Kipling)
- The Taking of Lungtungpen
- The Daughter of the Regiment
- A Friend's Friend
- The Madness of Private Ortheris
