A Few Requests

[edit]

Hi, I'm not sure if you plan on keeping on developing this tool. I really hope that you do. But, I can understand if you no longer feel comfortable. If you do, can you add the following things:

  1. A Tool to deal with split pages. This could even be a separate script that can be used for any match-and-split.
  2. The ability to deal with latex as in projectID455242379bd7f
  3. The ability to insert a blank page. Because of missing blank pages, I've had to do 13-14 splits for a file. Even if had to insert each blank page one at a time, it would save me tons of time. Once again, this could be a useful tool for more general match-and-splits.
    1. Coupled with this it would be great to have the ability to automatically renumber the page numbers in a consecutive sequence. I've seen things like a001..a0016 b001...b0007 ...

Really appreciate all your hard work. Languageseeker (talk) 01:19, 9 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Languageseeker: I don't see why not, it's a useful base for other M&S-powered importers, it's just a few regexen.
Re A Tool to deal with split pages, I don't quite follow, can you be more specific?
Re latex I'll check it out.
OK, looking at that work, it's entirely in latex. I don't think an importer is that useful unless there are lots more of these. If there were such an importer, it would essentially be custom latex syntax parser, which is a hell of a job. It's certainly not as simple as adding regexes to the existing transformations. For a start, LaTeX isn't a regular grammar (actually neither is the DP format, but we can just about manage).
Re The ability to insert a blank page, probably possible. Can you provide a good example ID?
Re ability to automatically renumber the page numbers in a consecutive sequence, again, can you show an example in situ?

I'm so grateful to you for doing this. It's allowed me to add some really cool text to this project.
Re {{tqi|A Tool to deal with split pages} Wooden Ship-building projectID4b0bf96235f48_F2_latest User:Languageseeker/Wooden_ship-building is a good example. DP tends to split multicolumn pages into two. So page 1 become 1 and 2. It happens generally with magazines, indexes, and multi column works. Languageseeker (talk) 12:59, 9 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
Re latex I figured that it might be too much. Would it be possible to remove the latex and just add a missing math tag?
Re The ability to insert a blank page The heart of Monadnock projectID4840381961770 F2 is a good example. I think I had to do something around 14 merge and splits for this one.
projectID3ff9cd2128457_F2_latest is a good example with unmerged text Languageseeker (talk) 01:21, 11 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
Re ability to automatically renumber the page numbers in a consecutive sequence I'll post one as soon as I find it again.
Cheers and with extreme thankfulness Languageseeker (talk) 12:59, 9 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
