ARWIDSSON, Adolf Iwar, born in 1791 at Padajoki in Finland; professor of history at the university of Abo from 1817 to 1821, when he was banished by the Russian government for a political article. He retired to Stockholm, and was appointed keeper of the royal library. He edited a most interesting collection of Swedish national songs, 'Svenska Fornsänger,' in 3 vols. (Stockholm, 1834, 1837, and 1842), which forms a continuation of the 'Svenska Folkvisor' of Geijer and Afzelius.
