PRODIGAL SON, THE. An oratorio by Arthur Sullivan, composed for the Worcester Festival, 1869, and produced there Sept. 8. The subject has been treated by Gaveaux, Auber, and others, under the title of 'L'Enfant prodigue'; and by Ponchielli, whose 'Figliuol prodigo' was produced at the Scala, Milan, Dec. 26, 1880.
