JERUSALEM, CITY OF. The chief city of the Jews. It was the home of Lehi (B. C. 600); there he prophesied and thence he was led by the hand of the Lord. It is often spoken of by the writers in the Book of Mormon, more especially in connection with its destruction by the Babylonians, and is mentioned in frequent quotations from Isaiah. The year of the departure of Lehi from Jerusalem was made the initial date in Nephite chronology; that people counting their years as so many "after Lehi left Jerusalem. " With the establishment of the republic, the Nephites added "year of the Judges" to their former system, and their annals sometimes refer to a date in both methods of computation,
