RED SEA. This sea is mentioned by name thirteen times in the Book of Mormon. Of these thirteen, eight passages are associated with the destruction of the armies of Pharaoh in the days of Moses, the other five occur in connection with the travels of Lehi and his company from Jerusalem (B. C. 600) to its upper waters, and their encampment on its shores, with the incidents that took place while they tarried there. The continuation of their journey therefrom is mentioned in I Nephi, 16:14.
