סחט (b. h. שחט) to press out, wring, cause to flow. Sabb. XXII, 1 וכ׳ סוחטין אין you must not press fruits (on the Sabbath) for the sake of the juice. Ib. 144b סוחטטין היו ברימונים they squeezed pomegranates. Y. ib. X, 10c top וכ׳ מלאכה והמכבס הסוחט wringing clothes and washing are in the same category of labor. Bets. 3a דסחוט שמא lest he may squeeze (fruit); a. fr. -- Hull. 27a אלא ושחט אאת וכ׳ וסחט read not (Lev. I, 5) v'shaha (and he shall cut), but v'sahat (and he shall get the blood out) &c., v. חטא I.

סחי, סחא 1) (b. h. שחה) to swim. Part. סחי; f. סחיא. Targ. Y. Gen. VII, 18. - Y. Sabb. VII, 10a bot. וכ׳ דם׳ ההן swimming (on the Sabbath). -- 2) (יh. סחה, v. Ez. XXVI, 4) [to scrape, sweep,] to wash, bathe. Targ. Lev. XIV, 8; a. fr. -- Y. l. c. וכ׳ מיסחי עאל went bathing with &c. Bab. ib. 141a וכ׳ במיא דסחי מאן he who bathes in the river &c. Y. Pes. X, beg. 37b וצחא סחה had taken a bath and was thirsty. Y. Ter. VII, end, 46c וכ׳ סחון take ye a bath, for your Creator will help you &c. Ib. סחיין דאינון עד until they shall have taken a bath. סחייא a סייחא m. (סחי or סו) swimmer. Yoma. 7b ׳-e לשייטא קורין שכן ed. (Ms. M. שיחה; Ms. M. 2 סחוא; Ar. סווחי) for the swimmer is called s.; Yalk. Ez. 381 שחייא; Y. Shek. VI, 50a top שחינא (Bab. ed. שחונא; Ms. M. סחותא, read; סחוונא).

סחיפא m. (סחף II) an inverted vessel, opp. זקיפא. Pes. 40a שרי ס׳ (ed. סחיפה; Ms. M. סיחפא) if the grain is roasted in an inverted vessel &c., v. זקיפא I.
סחיתא, סחותא f. (סתי 2)=b. h. סחי, sweepings. refuse. Targ. Zeph. I, 17 (ed. Wil. ס׳; Ar. סיחתא). Targ. Is. V, 25 (Regia סוחי׳; some ed. סיה׳; h. text סוחה). -- Sabb. 121b ס׳ שדי הוה Ar. (ed. רוקא) threw refuse (disgusting matter, cmp. סוחא, before the Resh G'lutha). Y. M. Kat. II, 81d top וכ׳ דבייתא ס׳ איתא הדא והמת (not וומת) a woman swept the refuse out of the house and threw it &c. Lam. R. to I, 15, v. סאתא II.

סחף (b. h.; cmp. חפף II) to rub, sweep. Pirke d'R. El. ch. XIV הארן על במעיו סותף . . בעצבון in the pain. of its growth, it (the serpent) shall sweep along (drag itself) with its belly on the ground. - Part. pass. סחוף, pl. סחופים, סחופיןwept aaiway, driven about. Tanh. P'kude 3 like a dog וכ׳ ס׳ שהוא (some ed. חשוף, חצוף) that is pushed this way and that way. Yeb. 47a דחופים דוויים ומטורפין ס׳ broken down, pushed about, swept (from place to place) and tossed about; [Rashi; covered in mourning, v. הפה a. חפם I]. Yalk. Ps. 735, v. סכף. Nithpa. נסתחף to be swept, be inundated, ruined by a food. Keth. I, 6 (12b) שדך נסתחפה (Y. a. Bab. ed. שדהו, euphemism) thy field has been ruined, i. e. it is thy misfortune, and I cannot be made to suffer for it. Ib. 2a שדהו ׳ it is thy misfortune (that Iwas taken sick). Ib. VII, 8 שדהו ו׳ . . האב the father has to bring evidence that these blemishes arose while she was betrothed and therefore it was his (the husband's) misfortune; a. e. סחף II (v. חפף I) to put on as a cover, to tilt over, invert. Snh. 104a ארישיה ס׳ . (אובלא) אוכלא he inverted a fuller's trough over his head. Ned. 51a רישיה על וסחפיה and tilted it over &c. Sabb. 110a ארישיה דיקולא וליסחוף (Ms. M. incorr. וליחסוף) and let him put a basket over his head. Ib. 121b.
