סרונכי f. (סרך II, with נ inserted) [interception, sticking,] choking, suffocation. Yoma 84a לס׳ דם מקיזין בשבת you may let blood on the Sabbath in a case of aspbyxia. Snh. 37b; Keth. 30b; Sot. 8b; Num. R. s. 14 מת בס׳ will die from suffocation. -Cmp. סרנק,.

סרח I (Saf of אר; cmp. סרג, סרך) to entangle, inter- cept. Y. Succ. V, 55c bot. הנעימה את סורה שהוא מפני be- cause it (the sound of the organ) intercepts (confounds) the melody of the song; (Arakh. 10b מערבב) -- E-p. (of a. rough-edged surface) to catch (cmp. סכסך); to lacerate. Kel. XXX, 4 היד את סורחת it (the fask whose mouth is broken of) catches the hand (when you attempt to get the aromatic unguent out). Tosef. ib. B. Bath. V II, 10 הפה את סורחין the rough edges lacerate the lips (R. S. tto Kel. XXX, 3 סורקים, read סורחים). Hiff. הסריח same, to lacerate. Keth. 61b מסריח ששפשתן הפה את the flax (which the spinner moistens with saliva) makes the mouth sore; Y. ib. V, 30a bot. מסרחת, v. שלבק. Pi. סירח to clutch, grasp. Erub. 54a (ref. to Ps. LXVIII, 11) וכ׳ ואוכלת שמסרחת.. . משים אדם אם if one makes him- self like a beast of prey which seizes (with its claws) and eats (difer. in comment.), his learning will stay with him, i. e. only he who is plain in his living will become a. scholar; Yalk. סרח II (b. h.; Saf. of רוח, cmp. דוח; cmp. Arab. sara- ha) to be or to make wide; to extend. -- Part.pass. סרוח; f. סרוחה; pl. סרוחים, סרוחין; סרוחות a) overhanging, fflapping. Yoma 83b ס׳ ואזניו and his (the mad dog's) ears fap. -- b) (v. Am. VI, 4; 7) stretched indolently on the couch, ban- queting.M. Kat. 28b; Keth. 69b; Yalk. Am. 545 לס׳ שר נעשה, v. מר II. Num. R. s. 9, v. סור I. -- c) emasculoted, impotent. Gen. R. s. 32 (ref. to Gen. VII, 16) וכ׳ ומחוסרי לס׳ פרט (ed. Leipz. סרוסים, corr. acc.) to the exclusion of emasculated animals (impotent from old age; Rashi'; animals having overhanging, double, limbs) and mutilated ones. Deut. R. s. 3(expl. וכ׳ עקר, ib. VII, 14) ואילוניות ס׳ (some ed. סריסין) mpotent men or barren wommen.

סרח III (v. precd.; cmp. ריח) to evaporate, be decom- posed; to decay; to smell badly. -- Part. pass. סרוח; f סרוחה; pl. סרוחים, סרוחין; סרוחות. Ter. III, 1; a. fr. - Trnsf. a) (cmp. תמן) to sin, offend. Snh. 71b; Keth. 445a סרחהולבסוףבגרה if she sinned (had intercourse) and afterwards became of age. Num. R. s. 13 מלקה סורחת ואם.. סורחת אינה אם (not סוחרת) is she (the ass whom he rides) is not mischiev- ous, he does not strike her, but if she is, he strikes her; Yalk. Lev. 554; Yalk. Prov. 959. Ib. יהא יסרה שאם וכ׳ to chastise him with them in case he should offend. Yoma 75a עלי ס׳ הוא he (my husband) acted offensively towards me; וכ׳ סרחה היא she acted offensively &c. Ib. 77a אומתד סרחה thy people has degenerated. Midr. Till. to Ps. VI מדינתו עליו סרחה one of his provinces rebelled against him. Ex.
