פומפי, פומבי f (~o~~ז, pompa) solemn procession, pomp, sodlemnity, ostentation. Y. Shek.I, beg. 45a לעשות כדי לדבר פומבי (Ms. M. פוספי, read פומפי) in order to give greater publicity to tthe act; Y. Yoma II, 39d top; ib. II, end, 40a; a. fr. - Pesik. R. s. 12 כאמהות פ׳ לה נעשית שלא לפי because she had not been given a public funeral as was given to the other Mothers. Ib. פ׳ להם נעשה היה (masc.). פונדיון m. (popular abridgment of Dupondium or Dipondium) AIupondium, a Roman coin equal to ttwo Asses. Maas. Sh. IV, 8 בפ׳ יוצא הוא . והלך and he went to another place where the lsar (As) is worth a Dupondium. Kel. XVII, 11, a. e., v. ככר. Y. Maas. Sh. IV, 55b top שני איסריןפ׳ two Isars are one Dupondium. Ib. פונדק m. (~~~~o~~o2) inn, tavern, lodging place. B. Mets. 26a אדם בני לשלשה פ׳ שעשאו (not ישראל; v. Rabb. D. S. a. l. note 4) when he made his house a lodging place for three persons (at the same time). Sot. 10a (expl. אשל, Gen. XXI, 33) פ׳ אמר וחד פרדס אמר חד one says, it means, Abraham planted an orchard, and one says, he put up an inn (for the reception of travellers); Gen. R. s. 54 (with play on אשל) וכ׳ תשאל מה שאל פונדיק an inn, (where they say,) ask what you may desire, cake, meat, &c. Maccs. 1ob אחד לפונדיק מזמינן הקביה the Lord causes them to meet at the same inn. Yeb. XVI, 71 22a) בפונדוק והביאוהו (Y. ed. בפונדק) and they brought him (the sick man) to an inn; a. fr. -- [Y. B. Mets.
