קלנדס c. (calende, accus.) kalends, the frst day of the Roman month, (applied only to the kalende Januarie) the Roman New ear. Ab. Zar. I, 31(8a) סדנלק Y. ed. (Mish. a. Bab. אדנלק). Y. ib. 39c top ׳כו םדא ׳ק Adam instituted the kalends; ׳כו ןולק ׳ק . אמחד ןויכ when he observed that the days were growing longer, he exclaimed, kalendas &c., v. ואיד. Ib. סירבוניד ׳ק, v. סירבוניי. Ib. לכל הרוסא ׳ק on the Roman New Year it is forbidden to deal with all gentiles; [oth. opin.] הב ןיחלפל אלא הרוסא ןיא it is for- bidden to deal with those only who worship on it; Bab. ib. 8a; Tosef. ib. קלניתא f. (קלל) name of a very lean bird, kallanitha. Hull. 102b ׳קב such is the case with the kk.; ףוע ׳ק אהו אוה אמט but the k. is an unclean bird?; ׳ק ןיעכ a clean bird similar in build to the k. -- B. Bath. 20a אטרסמ אל ׳ק but the k. does not scratch (and a child may play with it) ; ׳ק ןיעכ (a bird that does scratch, but is) similar &c.

קלס I, Pi. קלס (denom. ofקולס) to put a helmet on; part. pass. סלוקמ an aninmal roasted in its entirety with the entrails and legs on the head. Pes. 74a R. Tarfon called it ׳מ ידג a kid with a helmet on. Tosef. Bets. II, 15 יהוזיא וברקו . . ׳מ ידג (not וברקב) what is a g'di m'kullas?h Entirely roasted, with head, legs, and entrails. Ib. ׳מ לגע a. calfroasted with the head &c. Ib. Todos taught the Roman Jews to take lambs ׳כו ןמסלוקמ ןתוא ןישועו and prepare them helmeted' on Passover nights. -- [Midr. Till. to Ps. קלס II, Pi. קלס, קי׳ (denom. of קול, Pales) [to shout, make noise,] 1) to praise; [b. h. to decry, deride]. B. Bath. 176a ׳כו ייר ׳קש פעא although R. Yishm. praised Ben N. (commended his argument) the practice follows his (R. Yishmael's) opinion; Y. ib. X, end, 17a וסליק ושרדמ לע he commended him for his mode of argumentation. Lev. R. s. 30 הבקהל סקננו . . . חקינ let us take up the Lulab and. Ethrog and offer praise to the Lord. Midr. Till. to Ps. CXIV (expl. ולס, Ps. LXVIII, 5) וסלק (not וסליק) praise him. Ib. Ps. CIV; a. v. fr. - 2) to tramp or clap (in wailing ceremonies or on joyous occasions), v. סוליק II, 2. M. Kat. 27b ׳כו סלקי אל סלקמה the tramper (at momurning cere- mmonies) must not tramp with a sandal on his foot, but with a shoe, to avoid accident. Hithpa. סלקתה to be praised; to be done honor to by song, clapping &c. Y. Hag. I, 76c ןיסלקתמ. . . האור היהשכ (not ןוס . ) whenever he saw a deceased person orr a bride honored.
קכס, Pa. קלס ch. same, to call out; to praise; to tramp. Targ. Esth. VI, 9; 11 (h. text ארק). Targ. Y. II Deut. XXXII, 43. Targ. Y. II Ex. XXXII, 18; a. fr. -- Keth. 21b הל תסלקמ ימנ תא . . . הסלקד םושמ because thy mother's father commended it, thou commendest it like-- wise. Y. Kil. VIII, 31b, a. e. ׳כו םילזה היל סלקמ . . הוהו R. J. praised him by applying the verse (Is. XLVI, 6) &c. Y. Maas. Sh. I, end, 53a היסלקו . . הרמא he said it before R. Abina, and he applauded him, opp. הירתנק; a. e. -- Y. Peah I, 15d; Y. Ab. Zar. I, 42c top ׳כו ימוק סלקמ did honor to bridal couples (singing, dancing &c.); (Keth. 17a דקרמ).

*קלסא m. (b. h. קלסה, v. קלס) shouting, derision. Targ. Ps. XLIV, 14 Ms. (ed. אנלק).
קלסטור (better קולסטיר) m. (~~~~~~~) torturer, executioner. Ab. Zar. 18a ׳כו ורוטסלקו . . . אנינח ׳ר Ar. (ed. הירינוטצלקו; Ms. M. הירניטסלקו, arisen from confusing our w. with ouestionarius, v. רניטסוק, ןירטניסולק) R. Hanina . . . and his executioner are destined to enjoy the happiness of the hereafter. קלסטיר, קלסטר II, קלסתר m. (~~~~~~s. crystallum) crystal; trnsf. brightness, (with, or sub. םינפ; cmp. ויז) beauty of features, countenance.
