RUTHERFORD. (Lieutenant, 1840.)

Gilbert Brydone Rutherford entered the Navy 7 Nov. 1829; passed his examination in 1836; and obtained his commission 3 June, 1840. His appointments have since been – 6 Aug. 1841, to the Illustrious 72, flag-ship of Sir Chas. Adam on the North America and West India station, whence he returned in 1845 – and 13 March, 1846, and 14 Feb. 1847, as First-Lieutenant, to the Devastation steam-sloop of 400-horse power, Capt. Edw. Crouch, and Penelope steam-frigate of 650 horse-power, bearing the broad pendant of Sir Chas. Hotham, both on the coast of Africa. He was nominated Acting-Commander of the Penelope 26 April, 1848. Agents – Hallett and Robinson.
