AROUND THE FIRE
When we get round the fire at night,We three, while Granny knits and knits,The big woodfire 's our only light,—The corner's dark where Granny sits. But then her needles gleam and click,And then we hear the great clock tickLouder than when the sun shines bright.
And my! but Granny tells us tales,You ought to hear about a boatThat came one night—it had no sails,Nor anything—right in our bay!And there 's another 'bout the dayGran'father lost his wedding coat!
And Joev, when he keeps awake,Is always asking her to tellAbout the wolves that tried to breakInto the old school-house one time,And then the Dominie had to climb'Way up outside and ring the bell!
But when the other tales are done,Then it is Cicely's delightTo hear about the little sonWho went to sea.—We always sayIt 's better 'n any time o' day,When we get round the fire at night!
