Brooke, Sir James, K.C.B. (Rajah of Saráwak), created D.C.L. 25 Nov., 1847, took an active part in suppressing the rebellion of Saráwak in 1840, and was appointed governor in 1841, British commissioner and consul-general of Borneo 1847-63, and governor of Labuan 1847-56, K.C.B. (gazetted 27 April) 1848, (son of Thomas Brooke, B.C.S.), born 29 April, 1803, died 11 June, 1868.
