A Roman Catholic priest, Grebáč-Orlov is editor of the Slovák in Ružomberk. Since 1912 he has had a prominent place among the younger generation of writers.

IT WAS IN THE SPRING

It was in the spring—in glorious trillssang the lark above the ascending slope;the sweet scent of flowers filled the brisk airas with virgin beauty the day did ope.
There above the brook the bees buzzed about,with murmuring waves their music mergingand upwards toward heav'n on eagle’s wingsfrom within me new signs were ever surging.Translated by Daniel Slabey
