MELANCHOLY SERENADE V.

Grief! that in my soul com'st stealing,
From violets that at night-time bloom,
And that like a glow-worm gleamest,
Soft in the summer's evening gloom.
Kindle within my heart a winsome lay,
Full of longing and of bliss,
And then within her kiss
Fade away!

"Music in the Soul" (1886).
