Deut, feminine, ‘doit, trifle,’ simply Modern High German, from Dutch duit, ‘smallest coin’ (whence also English doit); the latter is of Scandinavian origin; Old Icelandic þveit, ‘a small coin’ (from þvíta, ‘to cut’).
