An Etymological Dictionary of the German Language/Annotated/Kunft
Appearance
Kunft, feminine, ‘arrival,’ from Middle High German and Old High German kunft, kumft, feminine, ‘coming, arrival’; compare Gothic gaqumþs, feminine, ‘meeting, assembly,’ the corresponding verbal abstract to Gothic qiman, High German kommen, with the suffix þi-, from -ti- (compare Schuld, Durst, and Gift). The insertion of an f in the combination mþ (mfþ becoming mft; compare further Vernunft, Zunft, Ramft) corresponds to the addition of an s to nþ (nsþ becoming nst), mentioned under Kunst. —
