An Etymological Dictionary of the German Language/Annotated/wir

From Wikisource

wir, pronoun, ‘we,’ from the equivalent Middle High German and Old High German wir; corresponding to Gothic weis, Old Saxon , Dutch wij, Anglo-Saxon , English we. The common Teutonic wîz, with a secondary nominative suffix s, is based on Aryan wei, whence Sanscrit vayám, ‘we.’ The declension of wir, which is supplemented by uns, belongs to grammar.
