Bande, f., ‘cushion,’ in Billardbande, from Fr. bande; similarly derived in the sense of ‘crew.’ The Rom. word — Fr. bande (Ital. banda), ‘band, strip, gang, troop,’ is derived from OHG. bant, Goth. bandi.
