Belche (2.), f., ‘coot,’ from MidHG. bęlche, OHG. bęlihha; Lat. fulica seems allied to it, although OHG. hh implies a Lat. g; the Germ. guttural suffix is the same as in Goth. ā̆haks, ‘pigeon.’ See also Habicht, Kranich.
