Bohle, f., ‘plank, board,’ from the equiv. MidHG. bole; comp. OIc. bolr (whence E. bole), ‘trunk (of a tree)’; perhaps connected with MidHG. boln, ‘to roll,’ Gr. φάλαγξ, ‘trunk.’ See Bollwerk.
