Gilbe, f., ‘yellow colour or substance,’ from the equiv. MidHG. gilwe, OHG. giliwî (gëlawî), f.; an abstract of gelb (Goth. *gilwei, akin to *gilwa-). — To this gilben, ‘to colour yellow,’ is allied.
