MidHG. jugent(d), OHG. jugund, f.; corresponding to OSax. juguð, Du. jeugd, AS. geogoð, f., ‘youth, young troop,’ E. youth (see Bursche, Frauenzimmer, and Imme); the common Teut. abstract of jung (in Goth. jenda, ‘youth); Teut. jugunþi- represents pre-Teut. yuwenti- (comp. Brücke).
