Pastete, f., ‘pie, pastry,’ from MidHG. pastête, pastêde, f., from MidLat. pastâta, whence Fr. pâtée, ‘paste’ (for poultry), pâté, ‘pie’ (allied to pâte, Ital. pasta, ‘dough’). Akin also to Du. pastie, E. pasty (comp. paste).
