Puppe, f., ‘puppet, doll,’ even in late MidHG. puppe, boppe, from the equiv. Lat. pûpa, whence also Fr. poupée, ‘puppet,’ poupon, ‘chubby child’ (from which Du. pop and E. puppet are formed).
