Schleuse, f., ‘sluice,’ ModHG. only, formed from LG. slüse, Du. sluis, ‘aqueduct,’ which is derived from OFr. escluse, ModFr. écluse (from early MidLat. sclusa, exclusa). From the same source E. sluice is derived.
