Schnuppe, f., ‘candle-snuff,’ ModHG. only, formed from LG. snuppe, lit. das Schneuzen, ‘blowing one's nose,’ schneuzen being also used of ‘snuffing a candle’; comp. Du. snuiten, ‘to blow one's nose, snuff a candle,’ E. snuff.
