Uhr, f., ‘clock, watch, hour,’ ModHG. only, from LG. ûr, ‘clock, hour’ (even in the MidHG. period LRhen. ûr meant ‘hour’); corresponding to Du. uur, E. hour. Based on Lat. hôra (comp. Fr. heure, Ital. ora).
