acht, num., ‘eight,’ from the equiv. MidHG. ahte, OHG. ahto, common to the Teut. and also to the Aryan groups. Comp. Goth. ahtau, AS. eahta, E. eight, Du. acht, OSax. ahto; further, Sans. ašṭáu, Gr. ὀκτώ, Lat. octo, OIr. ocht, Lith. asztu̇nì, prim.
