glotzen, vb., ‘to stare,’ from the equiv. MidHG. glotzen; OHG. *glozzôn, Goth. *gluttôn are wanting; comp. E. to gloat, OIc. glotta, ‘to sneer’; perhaps primit. allied to OSlov. ględati, ‘to look, see.’
