pochen, vb., ‘to knock, beat,’ from MidHG. puchen, bochen; comp. MidLG. boken, Du. pogchen, ‘to boast,’ E. to poke. The ModHG. vb. is not borrowed from the LG.; comp. Alem. bochen. It is derived from a Teut. root puk, buk.
