rücken, vb., ‘to jerk,’ from MidHG. rücken, OHG. rucchen, ‘to push along’; Goth. *rukki, m., ‘jolt,’ and *rukkjan, ‘to jerk,’ are wanting; comp. OIc. rykkja, ‘to jerk,’ and rykkr, m., ‘jolt,’ AS. roccian, ‘to jerk,’ E. to rock. rücken, vb.; see Ruck.
