ragen, vb., ‘to project, stand forth,’ from MidHG. ragen (OHG. hragén), ‘to project, become rigid, be prominent’; allied to MidHG. rac, adj., ‘tense, stiff, astir’; also to AS. oferhragian, ‘to tower above’; see Rahe and regen.
