verquisten, vb., ‘to spend foolishly,’ ModHG. only, from Du. kwisten, verkwisten, ‘to squander, lavish’; comp. Goth. fraqistjan, ‘to destroy, annihilate’ (usqistjan, ‘to kill’). Early history obscure.
